Asakusa, Skytree Travel Guides

Asakusa and Skytree are home to tourist attractions such as the Edo-Tokyo Museum, Sensoji Temple, and Tokyo Skytree; tourist events such as the Sumida River Fireworks Festival, Sanja Festival, and Tori-no-michi; and local delicacies such as sukiyaki, motsunabe, and soba noodles.

Asakusa is located in Taito Ward and has been a downtown area and tourist destination since the Edo period. Even today, the town still retains the atmosphere of a downtown area. In Nishi Asakusa, there is the Kappabashi Tool Street, which is lined with wholesale stores specializing in cooking utensils, tableware, food samples, and other items.

The area around Ryogoku Bridge is called Ryogoku and is known for the Ryogoku Kokugikan, where sumo, boxing, martial arts, and professional wrestling shows are held. Tokyo Sky Tree is a radio tower and tourist facility that opened in 2012.

Asakusa is lined with many soba noodle restaurants that have been in business since the Edo period (1603-1868). The aromatic soba noodles that have remained unchanged since that time are exquisite. Please enjoy it with seasonal vegetables and seafood tempura. We also recommend the Kamonanban, a thick duck and green onion dish, and the Tendon, a bowl of rice topped with a large shrimp tempura. There are also izakayas (Japanese-style pubs) where you can enjoy hoppy drinks unpretentiously with stewed food.

Sweets such as takaimo, sweet potatoes, and daifuku are popular as souvenirs. There is also a concentration of chanko-nabe restaurants around Ryogoku Station, all of which offer the exquisite taste of the food served in sumo stables.

Below the Tokyo Skytree is a commercial facility called Tokyo Solamachi, which opened in 2012 and was so popular that it was ranked in the top ten of the year's most popular words.

It offers a variety of stores, from nail salons, cafes, and sweets stores for women to family restaurants and apparel stores for all ages. There are also Tokyo Skytree goods and character goods that can only be purchased here.

Asakusa is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Tokyo, and Senso-ji Temple is a particularly famous sightseeing spot. Senso-ji Temple is the oldest temple in Tokyo and has a Kaminarimon (Thunder Gate) at the entrance to the main approach to the temple, where many tourists take commemorative photos. After passing through the Kaminarimon, souvenir and confectionery shops, called "Nakamise," line the street up to the Hozomon gate.

On either side of the Hozomon gate are statues of Kongorikishi, and huge waraji (straw sandals) hang from the back of the gate. In the main hall, a number of statues are enshrined, including a statue of Teishakuten. The five-story pagoda and Nitenmon Gate are other popular tourist attractions.
