The building was designed based on cross-sectional sketches by Hayao Miyazaki, and it is as if you have entered the world of Studio Ghibli’s animated films.
The entrance hall is dotted with characters from the films, including a reception desk where Totoro greets visitors and a fresco mural of Ghibli characters dotted across the ceiling.
Original animated short films are screened, and there are exhibits on how to create animations.
Visitors can see characters from Ghibli films such as the cat bath room from “My Neighbor Totoro” where children can play, stained glass from “The Witch’s Delivery Service,” and a 5 meter high robot soldier from “Laputa: Castle in the Sky” on the roof top.
Also hidden within the museum are characters from Disney’s Toy Story, Finding Nemo, and For the Birds.
In the “Where Movies Are Made” exhibit, visitors can see a recreation of a workshop and learn the story of how movies are made through a realistic exhibit.
Ghibli Museum is open by appointment only.
