Facing Tokyo Bay, the park covers an area of about 80 hectares and includes an aquarium, an aviary, a Giant Ferris Wheel, an observation rest house, a lawn area, eating and drinking facilities, and even a hotel.
A wide variety of plants and wild birds can be seen, and the observation rest house and Giant Ferris Wheel offer panoramic views of the ocean.
Crossing the bridge from Shiofu no Hiroba leads to Kaihin Park, which has two artificial lagoons, one on the west and the other on the east.
The park was developed in an effort to restore the natural environment destroyed by pollution and land reclamation along the Tokyo Bay coast, and the park’s forests and ponds are home to plants and animals that are now rarely seen even in the Tokyo metropolitan area.
The main flora and fauna include the red-winged blackbird, which is designated by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government as an important wildlife species for protection, butterflies such as the yellow-bellied swallowtail butterfly, and five species of frogs, including the Tokyo dama frog and the Japanese red-legged frog.
In addition, approximately 170 species of waterfowl and mountain and wild birds have been confirmed, making the park a stopover for migratory birds.
Aquarium Zone (east side of the central part of the park)
Kasai Rinkai Aquarium, which holds the record for the largest number of annual visitors in Japan and is the most visited aquarium in eastern Japan, is located here.
The aquarium has 47 tanks housing approximately 650 species of aquatic animals, including tuna that migrate through a large doughnut-shaped tank.
The rooftop is an observation deck with a dome and yacht sails that appear to be floating on the surface of the sea.
Aviary Zone (eastern part of the park)
The “Upper Pond” (fresh water) and “Lower Pond” (brackish water) are located in a vast forest, and facilities for bird watching, including a “Watching Center,” are scattered along the ponds.
The Aviary and the eastern shore of Kasai Seaside Park are resting places for migratory birds, and wild birds that feed in the shallow waters offshore and birds of prey that target them also fly in.
Lawn Square Zone (northwest part of the park)
The Giant Ferris Wheel of Diamonds and Flowers, the second largest Ferris wheel in Japan, Lotus Pond, and the Hotel Seaside Edogawa are located here.
The Giant Ferris Wheel has a rotating wheel diameter of 111 m and a height above ground of 117 m. It was the tallest Ferris wheel in Japan until the completion of the REDHORSE OSAKA WHEEL (123 m above ground) in Osaka Prefecture.
The Giant Ferris Wheel offers a panoramic view of Tokyo Disney Resort, Rainbow Bridge, Tokyo Tower, Tokyo Sky Tree, Umihotaru on the Tokyo Bay Aqua-line, Boso Peninsula, Mt.
Near the Giant Ferris Wheel is a “lawn square” with a flower garden planted with daffodils, rape blossoms, cosmos, and other flowers. There are 200,000 daffodils planted throughout the park, and the “Daffodil Festival” is held every year from January to February.
Shiofu no Hiroba Zone (southwest to south-central part of the park)
Facing the sea, there is a glass-walled observation rest house “Crystal View” on a hill in the south-central part of the park, offering a panoramic view of the sea.
This hill extends all the way to Ashigaike Pond, and serves as a breakwater to protect Edogawa Ward, which is located at zero meters above sea level, from high waves.
Facing the sea is a large grass-covered plaza.
A flower garden has been created in the corner of the gentle slope leading from Crystal View.
On the east side, in front of the aquarium, there is the Tokyo Waterfront Line boat landing, from which visitors can take a water bus to Odaiba Seaside Park.
